BeOne lifts its profit guidance again, but the range implies a weaker fourth quarter
BeOne Medicines raised its full-year operating-income guidance after another quarter of sales outrunning costs, yet the new range leaves a smaller fourth-quarter profit and management expects margin gains to slow in 2027.

BeOne Medicines, which sells the blood-cancer drug BRUKINSA alongside a wider range of cancer medicines, has raised its guidance for this year's GAAP operating income to $1.2-1.3 billion, from the $700-800 million it set out in February. The raise rests on sales growing much faster than costs. In the September 2026 quarter revenue rose 34% from a year earlier while combined research and selling expenses rose 19%, and operating income came to 22.2% of revenue.
At the start of 2025 the business barely broke even at the operating level. Much of a drug company's spending on research and on its sales force is set in advance rather than rising with each prescription, so when revenue outgrows that spending for several quarters, profit rises faster than sales. That is what has happened here.

The new guidance, though, implies the climb pauses at the end of the year. Subtracting the nine months already reported from the full-year range leaves fourth-quarter operating income of $206-306 million by Inve's calculation, well below last quarter's figure. The same subtraction puts fourth-quarter revenue flat to lower than last quarter's and spending above it.

Aaron Rosenberg, the chief financial officer, put the higher fourth-quarter costs down to the seasonal pattern usual in the industry and to rising investment in late-stage research programmes. He also said US BRUKINSA sales in the third quarter included about $50 million from the timing of orders and an extra shipping day, which flattered the third quarter as a starting point.
There are reasons to read the range as cautious. Since February the midpoint of the revenue guidance has risen by $650 million and the midpoint of the spending guidance by $150 million, calculated from the ranges, so most of the extra revenue has been allowed to reach profit. And a year ago the same subtraction understated the outcome: in November 2025 the company guided revenue for that year of $5.1-5.3 billion and finished above the top of the range.
Rosenberg repeated what he said in August: spending should grow in 2027 at least as fast as it has over the past several years. What is new is how plainly he spelled out the result. He expects operating income to grow meaningfully from here, but said "the pace of margin expansion is likely to be modest as compared to 2025 and 2026". The leverage that carried the margin this far is set to do less of the work.
The fourth-quarter results are expected to carry one distortion. The company expects to reverse part of a valuation allowance, a reserve held against deferred tax assets it had not been confident of using, in that quarter, and says this will produce a material tax benefit. That will lift net income without changing operating income, so operating income against the band the guidance implies is the cleaner measure of where the margin settled.
